This is Brent.
Brent is an aspiring comic who recently lost his dayjob.
He thought the message of Occupy Wall Street was a worthy cause.
So he supported it by visiting and attending meetings.
He even started a Podcast where he interviewed comedians at Zucotti.
Last night, the NYPD struck Brent in the head because he (correctly) asserted that what they were doing was a travesty of justice and done in complete disregard of the United States’ Constitution.
Brent is making the same face I’d be making in that situation, but I’d be sweatier, since I’d have been running away while churlishly shrieking for several blocks.
CHUNKY BEARD-O DESTROYS WALL St. WITH MILD CLEVERNESS!
Yesterday (9/18/11) I decided to make my way down to the financial district to check out the Occupy Wall Street protests with some markers and foamcore (thinking the revolution could use some punch-up).
The best part of the day (besides being offered free pizza courtesy of ‘Anonymous’) was how many great exchanges and debates happened on the street, since many actual bankers, investors, and professionals would actually stop and… I’m not going to say “quiz” the young’uns… but they were definitely hoping to have their “Jay-walking” moment, only to find themselves in rational, exhilarating conversations on Commerce, Freedom, and Ethics… the kind of debates that I feel like we should be seeing on TV and not on a random street corner on a brisk afternoon.
The turnout was 90% perpetual-protest-anarcho-black-bandana-types, not the all-inclusive people power movement that captured my imagination, but they were all friendly to me despite my obvious presence as a revolution tourist.
